Does any know what the differences are between .edu and ac.uk sites apart from both being educational/ uni domains.

ie:Does an ac.uk have the same value as an .edu domain.

Is the one more important than the other?

Edu is not just for North American educational institutions. I believe any official 4-year college can get an .edu.
A university in Vienna/Austria has wu.edu in addition to their Austrian wu-wien.ac.at, for example.
(I'm still amazed how they managed to grab that one - there must be dozens of colleges abbreviated with those two letters in the States.)

FYI .edu is administered by Educause; see [educause.edu...] .

Edu is not just for North American educational institutions

I based that on what I had observed over the past 5 years when I came by a lot of papers that were connected with edu's and all seemed to be north america. Cheers for the full info.
