Here is my question - in Outlook and other contact management programs I have used, to search for a contact I just click in the name field in contact view and start typing the first few letters of the last name...voila, the contact appears.
It seems in Act that I must move the mouse to the Lookup menu (because there is no shortcut key combination), select the field I want to search by, then type the entry I want to search for, then click "Okay" to get my result.
Surely I am overlooking something - is there an easier way to search from the contact view in Act?
I'm using ACT 2000 and admit it is a little long winded at times. However, I've been using it for about 18 months now and find it much better than Outlook where contact management is concerned - I still use Outlook for e-mail management though.
Best I can come up with is
In "Contacts Window"
Press ALT > L > C [if loking for company] type name >enter
or
F8 gets you into the "Contact List" and do the following
1.Click the column heading to select that column.
For example, to find a contact by name, click the Contact column heading. ACT! sorts the column when you click the column heading.
2.Start typing contact information you want to find, such as the contact name.
As soon as you begin typing, the Look For text box appears above the column heading that you clicked, and ACT! goes to the closest match.
3.Continue typing the information you want to find.
To close the Look For window, press Enter or click elsewhere.
Hope this helps
Spook!
I really like Act's ability to store contacts in groups and subgroups and send personalized mail to either. I do a lot of e-mail correspondence with small groups in Outlook and have to do some clumsy workarounds to avoid the dreaded "undisclosed recipient" address when sending to Outlook distribution groups.
