I am looking to buy an uptodate(as can be), all encompassing website manual. I would be chuffed if i could find a book which isolates common problems gives good advice on SEO and an overview of all the stages for deloping websites - From the initial idea through to launching and maintaining a good site.

This is probably a tall order but I'm sure a WEB Bible exists somewhere?

Maybe?

This doesn't really answer your question but I would recommend a book called 'don't make me think' which is really a usability book but is the best net book i've read. No techie stuff but it will give good tips from launching to maintaining your site..

How about "The Idiots Guide to Web Pages". This is a great book for beginners and teaches you the basics of HTML right through to the best ways to promote your website.

Also comes with a free CD featuring a free trial of Dreamwaver and other software.

Well worth a look for beginners.

I have a few books but only for software and learning languages.

What I use the most is the web itself, I have over 400 links in my favorites folder all sorted in folders, relating to almost anything to do with the web/Internet you can think of.

Just my 2 c's :)

Thanks all.

I had not heard of any of those. I think i was being a little optimistic to think that one book would cover all. Perhaps I would be better finding specialist books on the topics that I am having problems with.

In particular SEO - anyone know a good one on this topic?

Creative Craig - I have set a good number (not quite as many as you ;))of favourites in my browser but always find it valuable to have a good book at hand.

To be honest limbo, as the SEO world changes so frequently no book can cover the changes as quickly as Webmasterworld.

Stick round here and read as much as you can manage. It's the best investment you make of your time (and it's free)
