How dangerous is linking to a bad area

Is there any way to determine safe linking?

Happy new year!

And im streight in with a linking question.. I need a holiday :)

My main website has about 600 pages and has about 3000 outgoing links. The site is a web directory and accepts submissions from other sites. I just find it a very scarry thought to inherit a PR0 from one or many of these sites that I link to. My idea of linking to a bad neighbourhood would be to have lots of links that would be classes as bad areas. My assumption is that a few wont hurt so link as you still have lots of good quality links and not all bad ones. Does anyone think differently. How serious do you concider linking to a PR0?

Best bet on PR0's is screen capture on toolbar and use a image processor to blow up. If a tad of green -- just not enough PageRank to show. But that doesn't mean the future holds the same thing, web sites/pages can grow quickly.

If mainpage is PR0 these are the one to check and avoid if totally white.

In my experience "unranked" are gems in the rough that can blossom to 5, 6 and 7's quickly.
