Hi all

Im setting up and new site and want to target some Amazon books within the articles (need to pay the hosting somehow!). Ive picked a few that im familiar with, but im more of a ficton person than a reference book guy! ;)

Can anyone suggest any good titles? I want to reccommend some quality titles to my users, so id rather not just pick stuff at random.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The subject areas are:

web design
web marketing (i know there isnt a lot of print stuff in this area thats up to date)
marketing
business
search engines
any related areas

Cheers
JOAT :)

  • Getting Everything You Can Out Of All You've Got - Jay Abraham
Jay's probably the most highly regarded marketing consultant in the world. (His seminars regularly sell out at $5,000 to $10,000 a seat) This is his only book available through regular distribution channels and it's worth it's weight in platinum. Major focus on thinking out of the box and making creative breakthroughs in strategizing.

  • Jay Conrad Levinson - Multiple Titles
Famous for his enormous library of Guerrilla Marketing titles, and the creator of the Marlboro Man campaigns. The Guerrilla Marketing Handbook is probably his most comprehensive title. More of a reference than Abraham's book. Workbook style approach with lot's of checklists and exercises.

  • Joseph Sugarman - Multiple Titles
Regarded as one of the top copywriters in the world, Sugarman was the first marketer in the U.S. to use 1-800 toll free ordering in direct marketing. He's also the man behind the ridiculously successful BluBlocker sunglasses of the mid 80's. (over 20 Million Sold)

Other popular titles worth looking into:

    Influence - Cialdini
    Selling the Invisible - Beckwith
    Ogilvy on Advertising - Ogilvy
    Endless Referrals - Burg

    Nice tips, Dante.

Bought: "Train of Thoughts: Designing the Effective Web Experience" for some Christmas reading, after I saw Tedster with it at the Pubcon.

Basically I would like carte blanche for shopping around here: [newriders.com...] and then plenty of time to read as well.

Actually I read a book based on Bruce Lee's notes and quotes that was very useful for marketing.

I think the insights into human nature and philosophy help

The best intro level book for web design and SEO,

Webmaster in a Nutshell, 2nd Ed. Jennifer Nierdurst - O'rielly's

I've read a lot of the intro level books, but nothing comes close to this for a concise introduction to the multi-level approach neccesary to the world of designing websites for ROI. It is basic, compared to hanging around here, but the breadth of knowledge that can be picked up from this book, will change your posting quality overnight, as a heck of a lot more will make sense.

"Don't make me think" Steven Krug
"Eric Meyer on CSS" Eric Meyer
    "Designing Web Useability" Jakob Neilsen

The last one is pretty hard line but very famous. Steven Krug's is shorter and a funner read. Eric Meyer is the CSS guru as far as I'm concerned and his latest book was useful to me personally in coming up with some spiffy ideas.

    Cheers,

    Muskie

PS Zeldman will have a new book coming out, he is another well known expert in his field (web design).

I'll second the Steve Krug and Eric Meyer books, very good books. 2 of my favorites.

I'll add Search Engine Visibility by Shari Thurow. Brand new and *VERY, VERY GOOD* on real, well rounded SEO.

In another field (buisness) I guess is a bit of an older book which I've read it's mainly about planning is "The Art of the Long View". I don't remember the author but he runs a consulting company/think tank now and sucessfully predicted the oil crisis in the 70's while working at Shell.
That's his chief claim to fame.

A drunk guy at a party recommended it to me. ;-)

In my opinion one must-read is Creating Killer Websites [killersites.com] by David Siegel, ISBN 1568304331 [amazon.com]
