I cannot start a PC when I try to turn on the tower I get an alarm which is Beep pause Beep pause Beep etc.

Nothing comes up on the screen at all.

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be and how to fix it?

Does the screen turn on or no?

A friend had a similar experience not long ago with her PC. Turns out the power supply was shot to the terminal. She had to buy a new one. The computer itself was fine though.

Might be it?

Thanks Liane - the screen turned on with power (the led came on) but nothing showed.

I have got it working again, I ended up reconnecting everything, pulling it out and putting all the internal cables back in. Opening the case and sitting an enormous fan blowing directly into it!

Now the screen shakes! So I am backing everything up just in case!

Could be that huge unshielded fan sitting next to the monitor. :)

ROFL had to laugh at that as that was my first thought!

But I also have a suspicion my screen size has shrunk as there seems to be a large black border all around the window now. Weird!

Hi,
I don't know if this is any help and I'm not even sure if its still valid but could be handy to know.

One long beep followed by two short - Graphics cards faulty or inserted incorrectly.

Two long beeps and three short ones - Possible flat battery.

One long, one short then four short beeps - BIOS checksum error (possible new motherboard).

Three long, two short then four short - Keyboard control failure (maybe damaged cable).

No beeps at all - If fan and lights are on the cpu has blown.

From what i can remember beep often means that the Memory isn't correct.

My computer repeats long beeps with no display on the monitor. What went wrong?
Memory chip(s) is/are loose. Please open the case, reseat the memory chip and reboot the system.

maybe this?

Was just interested if a site I found could pinpoint it.

Award Bios
1 long 2 short = Video Error, Cannot Initialize Screen to Display Any Information

So that really tells ya the problem ha, good job you have already fixed it.
