I have a website with about 150.000 visits a month but I am not a seo or a pro webmaster, this is done in my free time, but some company is asking me to optimize there site for some search engines, but what can I take for such a job, I am pretty good at it, I thought about, take a amout for the job finished and a service amount each month for keep the page up to date, just a small amout, is that cool or what does a webmaster do.

I've been in discussions for some SEO work today as well. I'm inclined to ask for very little and get some payments by results - i.e. agree a fee for top 10 results for the 50 keyword phrases targeted.

But I also know that with a big firm that paid up to a hundred thousand pounds for it's website - they will look on me with disbelief if I charge too little for specialist consultancy. I know that consultants in say Cognos reporting modules wil be charged out at £1000 per day (minimum).

It's a difficult one to judge. The main thing is to get some SEO on your cv so that you look good to the next client.
