What do search engines show as page size?

As I can't show a specific example here (URL) , I'll try to explain this as best as I can.

There is a site that Google reports as being 5k for the index page, yet when you go to the site, the index page is a splash page with a pic that is 46162 bytes. How is this possible? Can it be done by style sheets? I know of 2 sites like this. Brett's "Webpage Size Checker" reports 58308 bytes just for the images.

Any ideas will be great. I'm running too big on my main page and I need to add more to it.

Thanks,
Spinner

PS: If you'd like to see the site, post me an email.

Google is showing the page size without the images.

And they don't add external files(.js~.css) either.

Actually, images are external files, huh :o

Can always count on you Marcia. Thanks.

Q2)Why would Google do this? Is it something you can force the SE to do? This site rates very well on many SE's, and I think one of the reasons could be that they all see it as 5k.
