Similar i know to the other post, but he is avid he wont split the sites apart...

I have just joined a company with my brother, one side is Software Creations, the Other is my Web Design - now were going serious about it its time for web presence but. what to do. the Company name we want to keep, it works well for both the software and the web design, but would it be better to have two domains www.companyx/software and www.companyx/design (there are better ways of splitting them im sure) or have it user one site that then branches. many people who need web design need software also, and maybe some who need software need web design, but since they are both extremly competitve in Se's for both fields, might it not be best to split them.

what would you guys suggest...?

I would suggest having the main domain keep dual porpose information like contact info and other stuff that is shared by both sides. Then I would set up to subdomains: webdesign.mydomain.com and software.mydomian.com.

These would act as seperate sites and help you in the SEO department, but they would still be together and not split up into seperate domains.
