For several months, I have noticed (in my log file reports) hits on some of my pages which do not include the .html file extension.

For instance, the report will say:

There were 222 unique pages found of 4802 log entries matched. 222 were displayed.

There are 216 unique pages on my site. But in the log report I will often find hits like this:

[mysite.com...]

The actual page address should be:

[mysite.com...]

Can anyone offer a reason why this would happen? Should I be concerned?

Do your truncated or partial file requests fit these specific characteristics?

Message #43 recaps (from two threads & literally scores of posts) an oddity a lot of us have seen in our logs since early April. We're still seeing 'it.' And we're still stumped as to what 'it' is, what's behind 'it,' everything about 'it' -- except for its precise behaviors/log results. We don't even know what to call 'it'!

So if what you're seeing is what we're seeing, please feel free to comment in that thread because ONE of these days, someone will either know about or figure out the mystery. (crosses fingers)

And if you're not seeing, um, 'it,' I'm unfamiliar with what you are seeing, sorry. :(

My Apache by default used to try and match an incorrect url to a page when it could (or else showed a multiple matches found page). I turned the feature off.

What do you get if you actually follow those non-existent urls?
