We have a couple of database-driven websites hosted by godaddy.com, we use MS SQL at backend. Recently, one major site gets more and more down time intermittently, it affects our online business seriously. I think the down time is mostly resulted from hosting server's database connection limit because the static page is always on but the static page shows "connection timeout". The site got a lot of down time before, so we upgraded the hosting service plan to the highest level, but now it seems the site approaches the connection limit again. How should we do? We just don't want to get the down time. If we upgrade the service to dedicated server, will the down-time problem be resolved?

Are you sure you are closing all open database connections in your code?

A very easy way to reach the connection limit is to fail to close database connections at the end of scripts.

^ that and ask your host if connection pooling is enabled.

Aye -- check on the two previous suggestions and also check to be sure you're not using the MSDE version. If you are, you may want to consider upgrading to Standard.

We actually checked all our source codes long time ago to make sure every db connection was closed. I called GoDaddy.com technical support guy, and he said there are simultaneous 150 connections for my site, which I think is not enough. So we decide to upgrade to virtual dedicated or dedicated server. Are there any guys using these services? Can anyone give me some suggestions? I am not familiar with web server configuration. Is it easy to configure web server?
