Yes: Use Mailwasher [mailwasher.net].

Mailwasher sits on your computer, between your e-mail utility and your remote mail server. Mailwasher allows you to "preview" mail while it is still on the server. No scripts are executed, no images are loaded, no file-calls are made, and nothing is downloaded to your computer.

Any e-mail that you don't want can then be marked for deletion. Then click the "process mail" button, and everything you don't want is deleted. Then your e-mail utility is opened, and you can download everything else.

Among other things, Mailwasher will allow you to "see" how the newer e-mail scams work. You will be able to see things like "[image not loaded]links to http://scammersite.biz/spam.php?your_email_addy@domain.com", which is how the scammers "verify" your e-mail address if you're dumb enough to have an HTML "preview" window active. You'll see how the phishing schemes work, including how they're using Google redirects. And you'll quickly learn that 99.99% of e-mails with attachments are very bad.

Using Mailwasher will not only keep your computer much safer, but will keep you much better informed.

Thanks. Is there some script to automatically delete emails containing exe attachments? I don't need to see to guess is a virus if an email comes with such attachment and would be great!

I don't know of any scripts that would automatically delete files. And I don't know that you would want such, since -- very rarely -- the attachments are valid, even expected.

But Mailwasher does allow you to create filters. Once you get Mailwasher up and running, you can set up a filter for any message whose "body" "contains" ".exe". (There's an example in the "help" file.) Have the filter mark any such message for deletion.

You can quickly eye-ball any messages which have been filtered (Mailwasher highlights them), and un-delete anything that you want to keep.
