Don't they require that you host with them to get a certificate?
No, you are not required to host with them (I certainly never have). I have been purchasing these for several years through them. When you renew it goes straight through geotrust and renewals are only $49.00 (through the link you are sent).
RapidSSL $15
GoDaddy SSL $20
GeoTrust QuickSSL $49
Is there a functional difference between them? I noticed that EV1's site says:
QuickSSL enables your web site to activate the browser's "LOCK" icon, indicating data will be protected from interception or tampering using secure sockets layer (SSL) encrypting technology.

It doesn't say the same about RapidSSL. Is the same not true of a RapidSSL cert? I do like the GeoTrust seal better than the other two seals and I think they have a fairly well-known brand. I'm not sure I'd pay an extra $34 just for the seal though.
