i am having server down, webpage cant be found error for one of my sub domain under those standard server package (those that you got for $95/month under friends reseller account). the subdomain is down every half day ..where all webpages are not found when you key in the URL into your browser. i suspect this problem is due to the high server load (which i dont understand why) ....i notice that there are high loads, more than 90% on the disk... disk sda6(/)91%, sda8 (/home)98%, sda2(/usr)99%, sda3(/var) 97% ...does all this matters? i tried to contact the server hosting supports but its been one and there's no response from them.
its there anythingi missed out here or is there any mainenance job i can do to resolve this problem? also the site i hosted are just some static HTML pages, no databse, no dynamic pages, nfew image files, and i am far from exceeding my limited space given (the 5mb space). any help will be highly appreciated, thanks a lot!
those standard server package
There's a standard server package? That's news to me!
those that you got for $95/month under friends reseller account
Maybe you should ask your friend!
What are you getting for $95/month? This seems way high for single-domain shared hosting. Heck, it's high for multi-domain hosting or VPS hosting. In fact, you can get a dedicated computer for this price!
Anyway, in many cases, these "unlimited" "reseller" hosts are often WAY over-subscribed. (Google "tragedy of the commons", or look it up on Wikipedia...) The remedy is probably to host elsewhere.
i notice that there are high loads, more than 90% on the disk... disk sda6(/)91%, sda8 (/home)98%, sda2(/usr)99%, sda3(/var) 97%
What are you looking at? Where did you get these numbers? I suspect these are % of disk space used, not "load".
i tried to contact the server hosting supports but its been one and there's no response from them
I'm guessing that this is because your "friend" the reseller is responsible for front-line support.

When you server appears to be down, can you access the control panel? Are both the web server and control panel down, or just the web server? Have you tried accessing the site from somewhere else on the Internet? (i.e. from a friend's house, via a backup dial-up account, through a proxy, etc.) First make sure that it isn't a problem with YOUR computer, YOUR Internet connection or YOUR ISP.
There are a number of websites around the world from which you can "ping" your server for a test for simple Internet connectivity. These sites are invaluable for diagnosing connectivity problems.
If you DO have a high server load, it's EASY to understand why. Assuming this is a shared server, there may be dozens or even hundreds of other web sites hosted on the machine. YOU aren't doing anything to load-down the system, but apparently those other users are.

This probably isn't really a "hardware" question, and you might get a better response on the "webmaster general" or "new to web development" forums.
I'd suggest that you first educate yourself on hosting packages (shared, VPS, Xen VPS, dedicated hardware) so that you understand their differences and limitations and figure out just what you need for your situation.
If this is the case, then you should simply move your site elsewhere - if you only have static HTML pages then you only need a basic plan.
secondly, here's my hosting package details once again ...i made some serious mistakes at first:
- 1 main domain + 5 addons
- disk space = 500Mb(not 5 Mb!)
- bandwidth= 5 Gb
- control panel in Cpanelx
- unlimited email account
- shared ip address
- price $95/year (not month, gosshhh, too much mistake)
i said standard account means its very similiar to the hosting package you can get from those hosting company like billingeleven and bluehost (in fact, its created from a reseller account from billingeleven.com). i couldn't contact my friend who is on vacation (and tends not to interupt him) so here i am yelling for help.
...and yes, its not server load, its the disk space which is creating the problem, which i do not understand why. the info i got (disk sda1 sda8....) is info i got when i clicked on 'server status' in the cpanelx control panel.
jtara, encyclo ...thanks for you guys quick comment, hope you are not irritated with my noobs questions, i am still trying to catch up.
so once again, i have to ask, is there anything i can do to resolve my problem? the website (addon domain) couldnt be found on every half-day, cpanelx remains function - i have no problem to log in at all, and i suspect its related to the disk space issue but of course, i might be wrong.
millions thanks for any help given.
