I'm I Crazy?

Ok here is the setup. I have compaq ml530 that I am running my web site on so I'm doing my own hosting, right now I have not switched over to business class internet connecton so I'm using my residenial connection and port forwarding because but port 80 is blocked. If and when I do switch it will cost me an extra $40 dollars a month. My site hardly gets any traffic at all all and I have made just very little money off adsense. What do you guys think? should I just scrap the whole idea of doing my own hosting and get a host? right now the cost of running the web site is extremly high, but man do love being totaly controll of the webiste and all the storage space.
The site has been up for about 5 months and I'm index by Yahoo and MSN but no Google indexing yet.

First of all get your site indexed with Google.

I would consider getting a host, at least if you mean business with your website. If you mean even more business with your website you should put together a business plan; what you plan to make money on, how and when. That way you will have some planning before putting money into hosting and other expensive services.

In reality only you can answer your question, it depends on what you want for your self.

If you want to get rich quick, forget about the website and go to Vegas in stead, the chances are much better.

If you like the challenge and don’t mind working towards your goal, this Is what you do:

Build content. Real content that people will like to read, interesting articles about subjects that are of interest to a (large) group of people, but still a niche subject. Then build even more content and more after this.

Build traffic giving links. Find other sites that your site can compliment and contact the web master of this site asking him to link to you. If your content is good and it will be sensible for the other web master to link, often you will get that link.
Also find quality sites to link to from your own site. Who you link to says a lot about your site and what your site is about, finding these quality sites are important in building the theme of your site.

Analyze your incoming traffic to optimize your site. More interesting content and a user friendly linking structure will keep your visitors at your site and bring in more.

You will see that the traffic and your earnings will rice together. The more work and money you invest the quicker it will get back to you if you do the right things. What those right things are, you can read her on WebmasterWorld.

I am sure for $40/month you can find a good host. You can even get a cheapo dedicated server for that money. Not to mention a gread shared account. Maybe even a virtual dedicated if you want more control over the OS.

bufferzone believe or not I realy do not want a get rich quick sceme, I want I web site that of course is popular and can support it self, I realy dont mind the hard work infact I look forward to it. I just hate the idea of a hosting company eventhough it is more cost effective. The hum of the ML530 in the next room just does something form me, that is why I asked the question I'm crazy.? I am working hard to get index by Google, and what is realy weird is that all my adsense adds work perfectly so I know that they know that I'm out there, I think that I'm in the Google sandbox now. Interesting I e-mailed Google I and asked them if it made sense to have my adsese adds working so perfectly but not be index by Google, I did not get a reply..funny.

Using Adsense and getting indexed are not related.......

If you want to get indexed by Google, the most important thing is to make sure you aren't doing anything illegal. Hidden text, etc.

The second most helpful thing is to link to as many relevant sites that are already indexed.

If you are doing that, you will defiantly be indexed. You'll start at the bottom but you'll be there.
