Invite only script similar to Gmail or Newsvine

I'm looking for an "invite only" script more or less similar to Newsvine or Gmail.(eg; user lands on the main page where he's asked to enter his email and password to be invited, and is sent an email to access the site. The user is also able to send mass invites to their friends.)

I've looked everywhere and I'm surprised that something so simple doesn't exist. Could anybody give me any pointers on how to find a similar script? Or how to make one myself?

Anyone? I could use a few suggestions or pointers.

it would be easy enough to make

enters email
save to database
gen a password
send email invite
they then can use that pass to login

same steps for sending invites to other people but they would need to be logged in somehow

it is really just a user management system, similar t forum or other membership site. You could look at some of the code from something else to figure out how to do it as well.

It's the ability for users to send out invites I can't seem to find a script for.
