Hello, I came across a >possible< bug in mod_gzip 1.3.19.1a which if confirmed could also be of importance to SEO's.

Everybody who uses Mod_gzip 1.3.19.1a currently please do the following:
grep robots.txt access_log ¦ grep 404 >result.txt

Look into result.txt

If like myself you have several 404 for robots.txt you may be hit by the bug.I could not explain why certain files sometimes got a 200 and sometimes a 404, after diabling mod_gzip those didn't happen again.

Please state your results, in order to see if this apparent bug only affected me or the whole Mod_gzip v 1.3.19.1a users.

Interesting. mod gzip usage is still very rare. The problem is everyone is running dynamic content on already overloaded servers.
