I have a site with useful older pages, that are still using my old look and feel. I want to move them into my content mangement system, and wanted to know if I should keep the names the same or could i rename them.
ok granted i know i could either, just want to know if big "g" would label these as dup content or would I be safe as long as i remove the orginals. now this brings up a second question, if I rename them will big "g" think that some other site that may have reposted these articles is the origanal owner or would it still give credit to my domain?
any feedback experence would be great.
To keep the spiders informed that you have moved it you need a 301 redirect. Depending on the server technology you are using you can do it through an .htaccess file or with a 301 header in the file. You tell the spider that this page has permanently moved and tell it new location of the file and the search engine will take note.
This site has some good threads on both methods of 301 redirecting so just search for that.
Title = an article about stuff
I used "aaas.html"
What I'm thinking of doing is setting up the cms the same, using the same directories and all along with file names this way, once I delete the old articles or overwrite them with the "new system" the search engines will still see the same page name and content....
