SSL Image caching question

Hi everyone,

As SSL doesn't allow caching of images, I was just wondering if this also affects images on the same page where the image is identical, for example a button background image for a navigation.

As the browser translates the html, is it intellegent enough to re-use the image or will it (because of the SSL) download it each time?

Seems like you could just create a test page with the same image repeated a few times, load the page in a browser, and then check your logs to see how many times the image was requested.
