How to stop search engine from indexing a particular directory?

I have a directory on my server, and I want to stop search engine from indexing this directory.

Is there any other way to do it,except robots.txt?

Make the directory password protected.

You should also be able to modify your "robots.txt" file, telling all search engine robots to ignore your directory:

Disallow: /your-directory/
