Logs straight into Hotmail account

I just found a weird referral in my logs. It pertains to a read message in my Hotmail inbox. If I paste the url into my address bar it goes straight to my inbox without asking for a user name or password! Nothing in this account is related to my website although the email forwarding is set up to post mail to hotmail for the time being.

I don't know if this is related but I was chatting to my mum on msgr yesterday (or so I thought) but it turns out she was out and she couldn't access her Hotmail because her password had been changed!

Has anyone else seen this type of thing before?

Hey Ska,

I can't quite get my head around what this could be, but I assume you've changed all passwords?

Anything like this should be treated as an immediate security flag and password change time.

Very odd.

My theory:

Someone probably sent a link to your website by email to someone else. That someone else opened it. Thus the referrer in the logs.

When you visit the referrer URL, Hotmail sees it as invalid, because the email messages is not there, since it's in someone else's inbox, and just it redirects you, as a failover, to your "generic" inbox.

And the reason it's not asking you for password is probably because you had the option set to "remember the password" when you logged in previously.

I changed my password, set it to remember just my address and when I paste the URL into the address bar it still logs into my account. Weird!

Gonna move all my mail now.

OK Moltar looks like you are right. I just pasted the URL into another computer and it wont log in. Must be the static IP's we have at work along with MSN cookies.

Thanks guys
