Blog vs standard site

I have a good source of content and I wish to create a site around that content. The aim is to rank high and then make the revenue from PPC adverts on the site.

As a business model am i generally better to use a blog such as wordpress to power my site? or would i be better off using something like Mambo, drupal, Xoops etc?

I am pretty sure that a blog is better equiped for the search engines, but then again I am also hearing that google are de-valuing blog links.

My other question is whether (In general) webmasters are more happy to link to blogs or vice versa?

Perhaps many webmasters dont treat blogs as powerful authority style sites, or perhaps the fact that every man and his dog link to blogs so they are more comfortable doing that.

So, what would you use to rank well, improve chances of linkbacks etc?

I think it is better to get links on your site those which is highly visited by googlebot.
