"Error on page"?

Here's yet another one of my stupid, but I'm sure simple to answer, questions: I'm creating a page using notepad and then viewing it in IE. At the bottom of the screen - lower left - there is a message that states Error on Page. Any idea how I can pinpoint the error? Thank you.

Sure: Click on the "error" note, and a box should pop up telling you the line and character causing the problem.
