Masking email addresses

Hi - on my site I will need to allow users to search for other users (by real name) and display results. I planned on using their email address as the results but I do not want to show the complete address. Anyone know of any "standard" approaches to masking an email address such that someone who knows the address can recognize it but others cannot figure it out?

I'd say, don't show the domain, just show the part before the @
