Ok, here is the scenario.

You get a huge amount of traffic in a short amount of time.

Your host disables your account and tells you if it's kept open, the monthly fee would be tremendous.

Your host also states that you may have been attacked (Denial of Service).

After you have done your homework, you realize that you have obtained a prominent link. Google records suggest that even with this prominent link, your traffic hasn't surpassed your bandwidth.

What steps should you take to get your site back up and running?

is this what happened to you?

i'd say pay for traffic or move to another host. if you're saying the host is cheating you, ask for a second decision.

Yes, this is happening as we speak. My hosting service is definetly working with me, but now I have come up with my own conclusions as to what is going on.

The site has been placed back online. A few directories are still disabled(without noticing me....).

The site is extremely slow now. Since I am on a shared host, I am sure the site was disabled to give the others on the server a break.

Unfortunately, I don't think the traffic will remain for much longer.

Would you suggest I wait it out or make the switch to a dedicated server?

Did your host give you any specific information on what the problem was?

You say you don't think that you violated your bandwidth allowance. How much bandwidth are you allowed? How much were you using in an average day? How much on those "big" days?

Do you have any numbers for file calls, page views, and/or "sessions"?

Did the host tell you how much of the shared servers' CPU processing-power or RAM you were using?

It's hard to say, especially without specifics, if you need a "dedicated" server, a virtual private server, or a shared server with some other host.

Thank you.
