Very low trafic today, does the US have the day off

I know the stock market is closed, but do the public also have the day off

I just saw today the trafic is very low, I think it has something to do with the USA, do they have the day off.

It is a work and school holiday here for many people.

Since New Years was on Sunday everybody gets today off.

Monday is a holiday here in Canada also.

Im quite surprized that the Americans had the day off, as I was always under the impression, that if a holiday falls on a sunday in the USA, you were tough out of luck unless you were government, school or unionized.

Well I guess I was wrong.

Most companies have 10 set holidays and if any of them falls on a weekend they get the friday or monday off. That is pretty standard. This is just for standard jobs not hourly or the places that sell stuff and services to the people that are off.
