How many words should a meta description be? Is it a good idea to make it more then one sentence?

More than one sentence is not a problem if the sentences are short. I usually aim for under 120 total characters (including spaces) but I'm careful that the first 70 characters can stand alone in case the description gets truncated -- and it does, here and there around the web.

A few directories will use this description to provide the text to go with your link. So 20 to 30 words is ideal, and as long as you don't go over 255 characters it shouldn't get cut short on most of these.
