Unauthorized incoming links

I keep receiving emails from someone about them adding one of my websites to their directory. I’ve never asked for it and don’t really want links from them. But they keep adding links to my site to different categories with their own spamy descriptions. I’m concerned that having links from that lousy site may have a negative impact on my ranking. Is there any official way I can stop it?

Am I allowed to post their url here?

Thanks in advance.

by and large, such emails are efforts to get folks to place a link to them out of a sense of obligation, the old, i did something for you and you know you'll feel bad if you do not do something similar for me game.

I've ignored many similar emails for a couple of years on a niche site, with no obvious negative impacts. The rare time I bothered to look, the alleged link dinna even appear to exist.

Well, I hope it won't have any impact. But I did have a look and the links existed on a page with google rank 0 which also throws scripting errors before the content. And the emails I received look more like spam, I’ve been getting them every day for the last 4 days.

Every once in a while, I'll have someone get persistent about wanting a reciprocal link. After the first "no", I just ignore the pest.

Since this guy keeps adding links from his site to yours and then telling you about it, I would suspect that the other poster is correct about the guy's motivation and goals: he wants you to link back to him.

Ignore him. If you don't want his visitors landing on your site, you could ban him (by "referer") in your .htaccess file.

But since he's linking to you in order to get something, and since you're not going to give it to him, I wouldn't be surprised if his links to your site disappear in short order.

I've gotten these emails for years and ignored them for years with no ill effects.

It would be a horrible thing if someone on the web were able to ban someone else from linking to them.

I just delete them. They've become more persistent lately, even going so far as to fill out an online "Contact Us" form on our site, instead of just spamming the WHOIS database or trying the generic "webmaster@" email address.
