can someone tell me whereabouts on the computer do you press to find out what size, memory, pentinum level and speed of the computer is please; got a mental block...

I think it's Control Panel > System - then it's shown on the first tab. On XP I think there is a direct link to Control Panel from the Start menu.
If you can't see a link to "System" when you go to control panel have a look on the left for something like "Switch to Clasic view"

Or get to desktop, right-click My Computer, select Properties.
