The media tells us that today is the day that the world logs on and buys all their prezzies online.

Let's keep each other updated on what's happening and where.

I'm in the UK, it is 8.55 am and there is already a lot of traffic. The till's are not ringing but activity is more than usual.

It clearly applies to gift & Christmas related goodies.

The logic is that this is the last day for 'guaranteed' postage, although they don't take our local postal service into account </rant>

I dunno, I've heard that story every year for five years now, I have never seen an increase in revenue for my site this time of year, specifically x-mas related per se.

No doubt traffic is increasing, but it does that starting from end of summer all the way until xmas then it slows a bit until new year's, then it picks right back up and stays strong until the temps warm up again. If x-mas is in there, the only thing I notice is traffic drops seriously on the 24th and 25th, stays a bit rough for about a week then it gets kicking again, at least as strong as december.

What's that got to do with x-mas? Is that what everyone is referring to? Because for two years in a row I got real busy and added all sorts of cool shopping links about now... Then I stopped doing it, I don't even worry about it no more.

To me it's the natural trend of things, there's nothing special come December that's any hotter than November, at least not for me... And if it is hotter, then January and February, not to mention March are just as hot for me and my site.

But that's just me...

The BBC were on about it this morning and were live from Amazon UK's warehouse. The sites I work on are not seasonal related - more B2B so I expect sales to slow.

Good luck everyone! :)

I think that's the see-saw effect, when consumer spend goes up - B2B goes down ... but there's always the exception to the rule.

Due to the high increase in my traffic, the Law of Averages should show me an increase in sales.

The BBC slot this morning probably jogged a few people into action.

Does this silence mean all is quiet on the BIG DAY?

This weekend was deader than a doornail for me here in the US in terms of sales and traffic. Everyone was out shopping in the meat world. Luckily, the few sales I had were large.

This December, the number of sales is the same as last, but the per-sale amount is 1/3 higher, so I am happy. This is similar to November's stats compared to last year. So my attempts to get people to buy more per visit by selling collections and creating "lines" of widgets are working, but I need to get more people to come.

Things usually pick up mid-January and stay brisk until June for me. In the quiet of this month, I've been researching the widgets I will add for the coming year. Lots of work to do!

I had certainlt the best weekend but today ... despite it being the BIG DAY started with a bang but is slowly fizzling out and it looks like a total disapointment.

The positive side it is till only 12.25pm.

Today was average. Last Monday was pretty good - maybe they got it a week out?

At the end of the day, it was only media speculation and over the past few months they have been telling us to expect a cut in UK interest rates ... The Bank of England knew different.

Sadly the Press are publishers, they need to sell papers.
Does that make them an authority on buying trends.

We too are publishers, I write for a living and sell advertising .. but I'm no authority either.

I did however feel the because the BBC news were really plugging THE BIG DAY, it would create a frenzy.

My BIG DAY was a tad above average at 10.pm

So its good night from me

The BIG DAY theory is that yesterday was the last day that the general public would by Christmas presents online. This is on the basis that delivery cannot be guaranteed for Christmas from this day on.

If we remove 'snail mail' and used independent couriers that delivered the next day, such sites could be enjoying good business for many days yet!
