I was wondering if anyone had a set of rules on how to go about setting up a new site of their's?

Like what competetion is out there, what content will I be using, how to implement SEO/SEM, and the actual design and development of the site.

I'm sure there's project management books out there but is there a tried-and-true set of rules to follow? I have 2 designers working for me and they both work very diferently from one another.

That is such a massive question ..

with a yes and no answer that would fill a book ..

you would really have to be more specific ..

maybe you could start off by explaining the differences in how your designers work, and then people could give feedback

ok a client comes to you saying they want to start a new website or redesign their current one. You talk to the client and get all the information they have and what they expect out of the project.

What's some of the first steps you should take to begin the project.

I don't agree that you should start right away with making a design without first having studied what type of content and how much you have. Also will SEO be a factor and what new resources will need to be applied to a new site.
