What the best way to show demo sites online to prospective clients in a secure way other than using images, Flash or passwords? I'm thinking along the lines of ProjectSeven.com's demo viewer which I believe uses framesets. I have very little experience with frames but I'm willing to learn if it's a secure way of showing clients a selection of demos without exposing all the code. Any advice?

Make your demo sites in Flash. Hard to kidnap a flash doc. You can, but it's a pain. It is only a 'demo' of course, so just add limited functionality...enough to get them interested ;)

There's my answer. Flash. Flash is always the answer.

Shaun

Viewing the source code in a frame is just as easy as reading it anywhere else. In order for the browser to render the page it needs the code, once you send the code to the browser anyone can view it.

You could try some type of encryption for the source code, but anyone with a little time on their hands will figure out how to decrypt it. If they are casual users then I wouldn't worry about it.

The only real way to protect your code is to use server-side scripting (php, asp, ect.) or perhaps flash.

Thanks, Shaun. I played with Flash a few years ago (made a few sites, banners, etc.) and tried to keep up but really didn't have enough time. I have Flash MX (and prior versions) but I wouldn't know how to set up a demo other than taking screenshots of the pages and incorporating into Flash. I'm sure that's not what you are referring to. It sounds complicated if you're not up on the lastest Flash scripting, etc. Is it?

Thanks, Twist. I understand about people being able to view the source code in frames. But since you mention ASP, that's probably what the site I mentioned in my initial post is using. I thought there might have been an automated way to set something like this up (a script or something). But I guess I'm in over my head. I don't know ASP, know very little PHP and don't have enough time at the moment.

Anyway, thanks.

In case anyone else is interested... I am trying out Macromedia's Captivate. It looks like this program is very close to what I need. A bit expensive for me but I really do like it and so far, not too much of a learning curve.

section 8 is absolutely correct ..you can catch flash ..but if your client knows how ..then they can usually make their own site and wont need you .
technically it's not hard ..but the intellectual internet baggage and knowledge of OS systems ..means if they know how ..they dont need you ..

QED ..
