Too Many Links Too Fast?

Hello ALL,

We are ramping up a link exchange program and as I was trying to think what different bots might make of our new increased number of inbound links and a question hit me.

Is it possible that I will penalized for gaining too many inbound links too quickly?

If so should I pace myself and only add a certain number of new links per week or month?

Will some bots think this is an unnatural process?

As always thank you for all your advice and feedback!

You will not be penalized but I know that Google doesn't "let" you grow faster than the average site in your area. That means that if the average site on your subject got 30 links in its first month, and you got 50, Google will only count the first 30 towards your site's "credibility" (formerly known as Page Rank).

It definitely isn't bad to get links, eventually Google will catch up.
