How do I advertise without spending money

Hello,
Finally, over nearly a month of work and some endless nights, I finished my website and started hosting it. Well, the main concern was whether if I would be accepted to AdSense or not. But then I realized, I had no traffic at all. Only my family and friends entered my site, which generated no revenues from ads. My question here is: how do I advertise my site without spending money. Being a student, I have very little resources to even go to the cinema with my own money. So spending money over the internet is out of the question. I have submitted my site to search engines I know and I have submitted it the DMOZ, although I'm not sure if I'm accepted in or not yet. What are other things I can do to make people know about my site and its existance. I cannot trade links with similar sites because my site is an image hosting site. So I really doubt if any other site would really want to exchange links.
Its kind of long and messy but I hope you got what I mean. So please help me =)

There are directories where you can list your site. They do bring in some traffic, and some are good because you get pagerank from the incoming links.

1. Write content articles on subjects that relate to your site and submit them to free article distribution sites. Your bio and link information is at the bottom and will be placed on sites that use those articles.

2. Create news and submit a press release.

Hope this helps!

if (you made no useful content) then
go away and come back after you have
else
look at who it's useful to and why
find where those people hang out
go and tell those people about your site,
in the most tactful and non-spammy way
possible

Better yet, involve people in your target audience as you build the useful website. After all, how do you make something useful for other people without ever asking them what it is they will find useful?

You should register with some image hosting forums as well, your signature will work for creating your online presence and try to get listed in free web directories as many you can.
