Hi,

I manage a large post-secondary educational website...we have built a new one using php, and the pages all have new addresses.

The new site uses dropdown menus, thus making everything easy to access....

so, my question: Is there any good reason why we should be promoting in printed materials anything other than the root (home) page?

Some staff are requesting new URL's (the site has not launched yet) for their dept, but I would prefer everyone use the homepage so that there is less problem of printed materials using (either) outdated links, or else links that are not yet active.

Thoughts?

I thnks you are going about this the right way so don't listen to your staff. When taking an address from printed material it may actually be easier for them to go to the home page and select the page they want from the menu as opposed to entering the full URL.

Tell them who's boss ;)
