Facebook group membership drop

I am a Facebook novice but I have a private group of 97,000+.

I was getting 100+ new organic membership requests per day until December 19, 2023. On that day it dropped to 28 and has averaged about 12-15 per day since. November 2023 was 3,668 and August 2024 was 372. Is it something I am doing or is it the Facebook gremlins?

Facebook gremlins?

More than likely it's FB systems, not gremlins.
The number of groups being promoted is getting out of hand, and I think that many people are becoming tired of group promo.
Many groups are not legitimate, and are there for the scammers.
I wonder if people are catching on.

Yeah, the scammers always ruin everything.

I've also found that the slower organic growth top be more effective and to gain participation. FB's system seems to encourage serial-group-joiners who can't possibly participate in hundreds of groups.

Any suggestions on ways to improve organic traffic?

How much do you share to other groups? You have to be careful with group sharing because it's often frowned upon, but if it's relevant it should be ok.

The other way is to raise the profile of the group through traditional methods, such as emails, social media. etc.

Encourage content sharing within FB. If your members do it it's lts likely you'll run into issues.

I never share to other groups, members might. This is pretty passive for me, basically all I do is approve new posts. I don't do any kind of promotions.

I have noticed this for the last couple of years within my own group. My group however is a much smaller group of under 12k (carefully selected by yours truly) which has few if any scam bots. Facebook now only gives me 5-10 potential member requests a week instead of 150 at its peak per day. So many bots, I must have turned away 50k accounts since making it back in 2018. Facebook appears to cater to low tier macro image groups. Additionally, many times if you do not have your settings locked away from the world will place you into scammer groups without consent. Why Facebook allows at such an alarming rate that overloads their algorithm nearly unchecked is beyond me.
