Whilst Facebook champions its "Link history" a consumer tool and a benefit to consumers, many are seeing it as inevitable as privacy laws close in.

Facebook recently rolled out a new “Link History” setting that creates a special repository of all the links you click on in the Facebook mobile app. Users can opt-out, but Link History is turned on by default, and the data is used for targeted ads. As lawmakers introduce tech regulations and Apple and Google beef up privacy restrictions, Meta is doubling down and searching for new ways to preserve its data harvesting empire.

This is for mobile users from what I read. Others can clear their history as they prefer or not. I don't know how that helps non-mobile users if they do not offer the same options.

I spoke with a marketing expert and according to her this could allow Facebook to unlock the reach of links. Because why develop a feature for a type of content that remains blocked? In addition, Facebook can finally monetize links by using data outside of Facebook.

In actual fact, the links are already there, it's just that we cannot see them.
This move by FB is more aimed at making the information available to avoid problems with regulators.

its the end of Facebook

That's quite a prediction!

In some areas, yes, it's been struggling, but there are lots of areas that are doing well. I guess it depends on what sector works and what doesn't.

Hi, does anyone have anything new with the link history? I live in France and the option is still not visible. I wonder if this feature will improve link reach because otherwise what would be the point...?

It has no connection to link reach. As I mentioned above, this move by FB is more aimed at making the information available to avoid problems with regulators. It already exists within Facebook but you can't see it.

So Facebook's reach for articles is over. They killed the pages permanently and I think a lot of page admins left you. We are not going to generously host the Facebook feed for free for the pleasure of Facebook
