It may just be a perception: I seem to have noticed a significant jump in scammers on Facebook in recent months.
At one stage FB said how many fake accounts it took down, and it was a ludicrously high number of 6.6 billion. [

The technology it spoke of doesn't seem to have got a grip, especially as some of the scammers have new accounts, and it's very obviously a scammer.
One way the scammers can get around this is by taking over an existingh account, thereby having access to all their friends.
So it goes on.
