There's a report on the Net indicating Facebook is about to test a newsletter product which will work with FB Pages, and it'll pay some writers.
The idea is that writers can charge for subscriptions to their work and potentially create additional revenue streams while relying on Facebook to engage their community. Facebook will let them create Groups for their work as well, and it will also provide metrics on their newsletters.

Last night I watched the second episode of the docu-series on Amazon "This-Giant-Beast-Global-Economy" the episode was about rent-seeking, it was very entertaining. This appears to be yet another instance of Facebook engaging in rent-seeking.

Basically, you create content, bring the audience, and we FB will take the money and maybe give you a small share and ever decreasing share.

I'm willing to guess that they will start by making this extremely lucrative for a chosen few "influencers" to encourage everyone else to get in on the game. It's the big tech modus operandi.
