Facebook still tracks you even if you deactivate your account.
The only way to stop it, according to Facebook, is to permanently delete your account.

But even then, if you visit a site with a like button, it'll be tracking.

Even if you don't have an account, Facebook is following you.

Facebook said deactivating your account was never intended to be a measure for data privacy but rather for privacy from other people on Facebook.

It all adds to the value of their dataset for targeting ads. Being able to put a demographic profile to an IP address has to be worth a lot to Facebook. I don't think many people who understand now the web works will be surprised by this, they still know you visit a page with a facebook item on it wither via cookie or IP. I think this may come as a surprise to a lot of regular FB users though.

Mack.

Hence use of NoScript (example), which kills scripts, js, etc as needed ... and can deny FB (or other trackers).

Creepy behavior requires diligence. Sigh.

Totally unsurprising. It would also be unsurprising if their processes for retrieving or deleting accounts on requests is terrible
