Well, here we go, at Facebook's F8 conference Mark Zuckerberg announced the dating service to a mixed reaction from developers.
MZ said it would have privacy and in mind. He also went on to cover privacy in general, and protections against manipulation from bad actors.

Looks more like it's soon to be released. Match's stock (MTCH; owner of Tinder) went down quite a bit.
I'm mostly surprised because they never seemed interested in facilitating new connections between people on their platform, platonic or otherwise.

Don't you see all the suggested "friends" that constantly appear?
I can see this project going wrong from a user point of view.

I meant between people who don't know each other, as with the new Dating feature. Facebook does not facilitate in building new relationships, even though the demand is clearly there and they have the reach to make it work. For a company that aims to "bring the world closer together", that is inexcusable. Frankly, if Facebook Dating is anything like the Discover People feature, I don't think Tinder has much to worry about.
