Social Marketing is much like any other kind of marketing. You locate an audience and then advertise/promote to that audience.
If working with FB, be sure you know and understand all their rules regarding what is allowed and not allowed, otherwise, its pretty much the same as promoting any other web site.
Social media, as a plus, does allow the building of a following (think captive audience) so marketing has a generally more positive effect than standard websites seeking traffic love from the search engines.
