Any good Webmaster-related FB groups?

Hi,

I'm really liking the accessibility of Facebook groups these days, since I don't have any time to go to separate forums/community sites. I've been trying to find a group for discussing webmaster issues, but they all seem just full of people spamming with their crap. Does anyone know of a group for actual, successful webmasters just to discuss things? Kind of like this site, but in Facebook group form?

Just curious- what do you see as the differences in value between Webmaster World and a webmaster-oriented FB group?

Or are you specifically looking for FB groups to which you can market?

That's the thing.. I definitely do NOT want to market and do not want to be marketed to... I just want to chat with other webmasters..

It's not so much a question of value, just accessibility. When I'm on my desktop, I'm diligently working. But at other times (while watching the kids or driving somewhere or hanging out in the evening) I pass boredom by checking Facebook. Facebook groups facilitate a casual opportunity to join intermittent conversations.

You get the same here, only difference is you have two tabs open in your browser instead of one. :)

Meanwhile, most professional webmasters I know will NOT be caught dead discussing real webmaster stuff on FB since their TOS takes copyright of all content posted to their social media platform. And the fact that the "webmasters" would have no control over any speech filtering or other things FB might throw at the windscreen.

Sometimes an extra click to get what you truly want isn't that much effort. (winkers)

If you want something like webmasterworld on FB, start a group and build it up. It is easy to do (just hard to get players)

at this point i would assume most of the useful discussions occur in private (Closed) groups.
i'm in a couple of groups that have some of this discussion but in both cases are almost as much about the socializing aspect as the webmastering issues.

it also helps if you have lots of fb friends in the industry since many of them will discuss issues posted on their own timelines among friends in the industry.
i probably have 150 FB friends i met here or at pubcon (or through people i met there.)
join the Pubcon group [facebook.com] and then go to Pubcon and meet people...

It's also worth noting that we, here, at WebmasterWorld have moderators so we can cut through to the facts and not wade through what is clearly low-end self promotion.

I haven't yet found a group that encompasses all you wish, and i'm a member of a number.

Oh yes, moderation is definitely key. I ended up in one group that had ppl posting pics of half naked women going "I can't get approved for AdSense, does anyone have an account i could have?" It was pretty much a circus hahaha.

I wouldn't mind starting a group, I have started others. But exactly, getting the people is difficult. I have a lot of game developer friends but very few put much care into their websites. And I have a few friends with successful websites, but they're all in the girl games industry like me and aren't into talking about tech issues. But I guess I could try. Maybe I could try and harness people from the adsense publisher panel thing that google runs... >_>

Hm, I had never even heard of PubCon... Sounds like a good time, I'll look into it, thanks! :)

phranque hey thanks! The PubCon group is pretty much exactly what I am looking for! Not super active but everyone seems legit and all the posts are interesting. I guess now I've gotta get out to the conference and start meeting more ppl in the industry :)

I'm admin for a group of tech pros on Facebook called WIMP (Web & Interactive Media Professionals). We are a secret group due to the trolls and spammers. Our community has about 1,200 members and primarily focuses on developer issues, but every question or comment that is posted receives an answer from the community. Members range in experience from over 20 years, such as myself, to newbies looking for guidance. The majority of our members are in Northern California, so you will see references to local meetups and gatherings, like our monthly happy hour gatherings.

Sticky mail me of you would like more details.

WIMP is one of the closed groups to which I was referring above.
