Just in time for the Christmas holidays, Facebook has added group chat to Messenger for up to six people, and is rolling it out to iOS, Android and the desktop version of Messenger, worldwide.

You can see up to six people at a time … but don’t worry if your group is a little larger because up to 50 friends can join in and choose to just listen in and join via voice, or be on camera. Once more than 6 people are on the call, just the dominant speaker is shown to all participants.Facebook Adds Group Video Chat for up to six People on Messenger [newsroom.fb.com]

Facebook Messenger has everything it needs to surpass the other chat/messenger apps that have been around for much longer. I don't like the intrusive measures they have taken to get Facebook users to start using the app, but so far it seems to have worked without much resistance. If I had any friends, I might even try it myself.

Yes, it's intrusive, and it's why I won't use it, however, many people seem quite happy using it.

From a webmaster and marketing point of view, i'm currently wondering how best to use this.
