According to an announcement at the Web Summit conference in Lisbon, Facebook Messenger 1.3 will allow advertisers to send sponsored messages on the platform.
FB Messenger continues attempts to install itself on my Android phone. So far I've been successful in avoiding this, but weekly I find it in the queue for update/download apps even though I've never installed it and have uninstalled the FB app a year ago.
Also, often while on the FB mobile site my browser is hijacked to the Messenger install screen at the Google Play store. No doubt this is a selling point to prospective Messenger advertisers.

I have never installed FB Messenger on any of my mobile devices and I am glad I resisted the temptation. I use messaging apps for private communication and have no interest in being advertised to in that manner. I wonder how many users will actually appreciate this new "feature".
If you want to use FB on your mobile device, simply use your browser and log in there. The FB mobile app is just as functional as the app, (I'm not sure if the messaging works there though.) but it doesn't put its tentacles into all the rest of your device's private data.

Yes that's what I do but still the FB Messenger app tries to install itself on my device.

Correct, if there is a message, the browser won't let you see it, and will suggest using messenger. I, too, resist.
