I noticed that Facebook has now added a family priority setting which allows your chosen family members, or special ones, to appear at the top of your newsfeed.

This is Interesting as it seems to relate to something else I'm seeing on the news feed... a "fuzzy" observation. Facebook seems to cluster newsfeed by topics and to some degree to cluster these by time of day. I'm wondering whether anyone else is seeing this.
First, to make clear, I'm not talking simply about related news articles (though that's obviously a part of this too). FB is grouping together, eg, friends who are interested, say, in art and photography, some of whom know each other, some of whom don't... as well as posts about those topics from friends who I'm sure do not know each other.
Sponsored news stories related to those topics also get included in these topical groupings. I'll have to look more carefully to see how sharp the cutoff is on the edges of these areas.
SEO friends who post pictures of kids and vacations and meals seem to appear in other clusters... and then SEO friends who stick mostly to tech stuff appear to come in other clusters. The groupings could be time of day related... I can't rule that out.
This isn't something I can precisely quantify... but that's my gut level reaction to what I've been seeing. A family priority setting would be consistent with this kind of organization.

I've been watching this off and on and i'd need to spend a bit more time doing some research. It's clear there's an algo change in play. Timing is always going to play a part, but sometimes I don't see anything from close friends, yet they've posted, and because I see a refresh going on frequently, if i log on with a different machine at the same time I see different results. There must be a certain amount of personalisation going on, but I haven't been able to put my finger on it just yet.
