According to Facebook's stats, Messenger has reached 1-billion Android downloads from Play store. Not many apps get anywhere near that, never mind to surpass the 1 billion, and according to what i can find, it's only google app and Facebook app to reach that milestone.

That's an impressive number of downloads. They can't count me in that number, but I see people using it more and more. I wish their standard was more open and cross platform so that I didn't have to use a Facebook app to communicate with their members. Unfortunately all the big platforms have moved from XMPP to proprietary systems of their own making.

Personally, I think the only reason why it reached that number is simply because they FORCED people to download it. Remember, you could not access Facebook messages without downloading the app a few months unless if you downloaded the app.

I was one of the few who resisted. I have tried hard to train my contacts not to expect a timely reply when sending Facebook messages. They have to wait until I access Facebook on my PC, which is seldom.
