...outspoken Google chairman Eric Schmidt said today at the Dive into Mobile conference that he doesn’t view Android iterations like Facebook Home or Amazon’s KindleOS negatively.

“I think it’s fantastic — I love it,” Schmidt said. “This is what open source is about. Open source is open source. It’s experimentation, it’s creativity. … I think it’s one of the main reasons that Android is doing so well right now. And it took some guts to do it.”Google's Eric Schmdt On Facebook Home [venturebeat.com]
Schmidt was asked directly by Business Insider’s Steve Kovach if Facebook Home were to become popular, what would stop Google from removing it from the Google Play store? Schmidt didn’t seem happy with the question’s premise but responded tersely:

“It would be counter to our public statements, our religion,” Schmidt said. “The answer is ‘no.’ We would not remove Facebook Home.”

It looks like there's a little bit of writer's licence in that news. I cannot see that he specifically said he liked Facebook Home. As far as I can see, he referred to Open Source.

I'm glad you didn't title this post the same as the rest of the tech media has...Schmidt doesn't appear to directly say he likes Facebook Home at all.
