How do you make facebook links show the correct image

I know that when someone makes a direct link to your page via their facebook page there is the ability for them to select the correct thumbnail, but they rarely do that.

Right now if they don't change the thumbnail it just shows our payment method graphic. Is there some meta data that needs to be in place to tell facebook what image to show by default?

You could detect which image they have requested and rewrite the request to serve a different image for those requests.

try putting this in your page header. that's how i do it
