How do I place a video on my wall in such a way that people.
are taken to my site to watch it?

How would I do that? Video could be hosted on my site or on Youtube?

Just add the video location in the status update input box. If the user will click on the link it will go to your site or where the video will be hosted. If the user will click on the play button it will play the video on the facebook itself.
